An Ear Full

The twins have long had ear problems. They had a few ear infections along the way but the worst issues were ruptures of their eardrums. The first one happened during Christmas break a couple of years ago. If you haven't seen an eardrum rupture...it isn't pretty. (If you are weak stomached, look away.) When an ear drum ruptures, a small hole opens and allows the fluid to seep out. It looks like your worst stuffy nose, only it is coming out of an ear. It really is gross and nasty to look at. Most of all, it is painful to watch. I can only imagine how bad those infections and subsequent ruptures must hurt.
After the third, yes third rupture for each of them (3 weeks ago) I asked the pediatrician to send us to an specialist. The Ear, Nose and Throat doctor took one look and said they should have had tubes after the first rupture. That appointment was Friday. This morning at 6:45 they went in for the procedure.
They were very brave and did great through the whole thing. The surgery center used a gas mask instead of having to start and IV. The procedure lasted less than 10 minutes. The doctor said they had a lot of fluid building back up so it is a good thing we did this today. He also said they have identical scars in identical spots of the back of their ear drums from a previous rupture. I think that may be taking the identical thing a little far boys :)Brave boys in their clown gowns.

Even in hospital garb they are the cutest!
